RE: Don Demers
This was one of the best dvds I have ever bought on painting the sea!
I have been to Acadia national park many times and I spend some time on the Maine cost line in the summers for most of my life
and I have to say he really has caught the esence of the water there
now im trying to find a work shop I could attend that he is teaching
Don Demers is a wonderful painter whose seascapes are breathtaking and bursting with energy. I purchased this video in hopes of learning more about seascapes in particular. It's packed with invaluable information about so many things: wave formation, capturing the feeling of moving water, creating foam rising up against rocks, brush strokes, building on values, etc. You'll get a wealth of painting knowledge from a very humble man with a caring teaching style. Of few of my favorite insights from Mr. Demers: "Landscape and seascape painting is observation and invention. Visit and study the sea, use your visual memory rather than photos--it is liberating...When you filter the subject through your personal lens, that's where the poet lives." I highly recommend this video demo and I hope to take a workshop with Don Demers in the future.
Excellent instruction full of helpful tips. I especially liked Don's explanation of wave energy and the importance of trying to paint the energy I of water onto the canvas. Also loved his sense of humor and humility.
I enjoyed this video very much .I'll probably paint along with it the first few times so I don't miss a step along the way. I like how Don teaches.
It was an honor to take Don Demers class and I look forward to taking another! I learned several things and I only remember because I took notes the whole way through. I did not paint along as I felt I really needed to pay attention! Don was very detailed and organized! I learned to use energy which speeds up the painting process, also to create not recreate. I learned to paint waves with fluidity and to think of the rise and fall like a figure 8. I like the idea of using a practice canvas. Finally, to copy masters paintings which I have done before and learn so much! Thank you Don! It was a pleasure to watch you paint and receive your knowledge.
