1. How much does it cost to make a DVD video? • If the video is filmed in our studio, our charges are approximately $10,000 for a 2-hour video. Shorter programs cost less; longer programs cost more. We will give you a formal proposal with exact cost estimates once we know your personal needs and wishes regarding your program. • If the video is filmed in your studio, all travel expenses for the production crew are added to the production cost, payable at the time expenses are incurred. 2. What do I get for that price? • One or two days of filming, edited to a two-hour program; longer programs may require more days of filming. • A finished DVD master on tape, suitable for replication of DVDs by any professional replication house...or a completed DVD-R disc which can be replicated "in-house." This allows DVDs to be produced on an "as needed" basis without a substantial investment "up front." • A fixed number of DVD-R discs ready for immediate sale upon completion, the number of which will affect the total price of the project. This will allow the artist to recover much of the initial production cost through sales of the included DVDs; however, depending on the artist's stature and expected sales, it may be better to replicate in quantity. This is an issue that would have to be discussed further and depends on whether or not the artist has an expectation of selling to a fairly large number of students during the initial offering. 3. What about VHS? • We no longer produce VHS, as this medium has been made obsolete by DVDs.
4. How can I finance my video? • We offer our consulting services to advise you on ways to recover your production costs quickly and effectively if you are self-producing. Please call for quote on consultation services. • Self-produced: you pay all the costs of the video production with a portion paid up front, and the remainder paid upon delivery of the master, according to the contracts agreed upon between you and Liliedahl Video Productions. • Liliedahl-produced: you pay nothing, and we fund the production costs. 5. Will Liliedahl Video Productions fund my video costs? • Normally, we fund the production of an artist's video by invitation only. However, we are open to discuss possible funding with artists who have already established a national reputation and/or have a significant student following. 6. What are the advantages/disadvantages of funding my own video? Advantages: - You have complete control of all sales of the video,
- You can set the price of the video at whatever point you wish,
- You receive maximum revenues from retail sales.
Disadvantages: - You must pay for the production in advance before you receive any returns in sales
- You must fund all the advertising necessary to make your video visible in the marketplace
- You must handle orders, replication, packaging, shipping, and customer service questions
- You assume the risk of losing your investment if your video does not sell
7. What are the advantages/disadvantages of Liliedahl Video Productions funding my video? Advantages: - You have no monetary investment, and therefore, no monetary risk; Liliedahl Video Productions assumes the risk that your video will not sell, and produce no revenues for either party
- You do not have to pay for advertising; Liliedahl Video Productions will advertise in print and web-based media, along with marketing to its extensive e-mail customer base
- You do not have to deal with customer order placement, replication, packaging, and shipping
- You do not have to deal with customer service issues
- You receive a royalty statement and/or cost of production recovery statement on a monthly basis
- Once cost of production has been recovered, you will receive a monthly royalty check with no further effort on your part
Disadvantages: - Liliedahl Video Productions controls the distribution of your video and establishes the retail price
8. If I have someone else film my video, would Liliedahl Video Productions market it for me? • Yes, under the following circumstances. We invite artists who have already self-published their own videos to send us a copy of their program for review. If the technical production standards meet our requirements, and the content is of artistic and instructional merit, we will offer you a marketing agreement. Advantages: - We will include you in our national magazine advertising campaigns, introduce and promote your work to our own clientele and feature your video(s) on our website, thereby introducing your work to a worldwide audience.
- You do not have to handle any of the sales, packaging and shipping details, and do not have to spend any more money on advertising, unless you wish to do so.
