After the painting by Victor Thirion. This is my most richly illustrated
and written project to date (1997). An appreciation of the art revered
and exalted in the mid-Nineteenth Century led me to study the techniques
of masters like Bouguereau, Glyre, and Therion. The academic training
that provided the foundation for this kind of smooth, flawless work
declined and eventually disappeared from the mainstream art schools
with the advent of late 19th and early 20th Century art.
