For artists who are perplexed by the rise of Modern Art which eclipsed traditional classical art in the Twentieth Century, this books offers a new insight into the underlying political, religious, and moral forces that played a role in this phenomenon. I have been interested in the Classical Realism School for several decades, but never understood some of the motivating ideas that underpin the painting style—that is, until I read this book. It was very enlightening as to the reasons the works have the finished look that they do—but I won't tell you more about that. Discover for yourself the rest of the story by reading the book!
While the context (and text) is written from a strictly Christian perspective, I found the discourse interesting and illuminating. For those who are open to alternative viewpoints on any subject, this book will challenge many ideas about art that you may have taken for granted and force you to rethink you own interpretations of what has happened in the course of art history, especially painting. I personally enjoy entertaining all points of view, and if you, too, are curious, I think you'll find this a great read, and highly informative.
