Mr. Liang was born in Canton, China and first began painting in high school. He completed his art education at the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, recognized as one of China's most prestigious and competitive art academies. In China, Calvin Liang designed and created sets for operas and musical dramas for the Canton Opera Institute.
Liang moved to the United States in 1987 and had a long and successful career creating visual art for the entertainment industry in animation. Liang worked for Walt Disney Studio and Nickelodeon Studio. He and helped to bring "The little Mermaid" and "Cinderella Stories" to life and for Nickelodeon, he helped work on "Angry Beavers" and "Sponge Bob." Ultimately, however, Liang became fascinated by the beautiful California landscape and transformed himself into a fine artist, painting themes of his choosing. Calvin Liang's masterful oils never fail to impress and inspire.
China has produced some of today's brightest stars in the U. S. art market. We already represent three of those artists with Huihan Liu, Zhaoming Wu, and Dali Higa, whose books we continue to offer. Our most recent addition is a brand-new book by Calvin Liang, entitled "The Overseas Oil Painter of China - Calvin Liang." One of a dozen Chinese painters abroad, Liang joins a small group of artists honored by their government to be included in the series "Overseas Painters of China".
Liang is known for his expressive brushwork and generous paint in stunning seascapes and landscapes. His color and brushwork compares favorably with that of Sorolla, and he captures maximum effect with minimum strokes. The paintings in this book are exploding with rich, harmonious color, golden light and bright clear atmosphere. You can almost smell the salt sea air when you thumb through the pages.
This is a picture book—large in format, soft-covered, printed in beautiful color, and not a page is wasted on text after the Foreward. The illustrations are printed so precisely that you can see the weave of the canvas on many of the paintings, and painters will delight in seeing the detail in the brushwork in the full-page illustrations. A small number of these books are available to the U.S. market, as they quickly sell out in Liang's homeland of China. With only a few hundred available, don't miss this opportunity to purchase what will surely become a collectible book in the very near future.
